SAFIRE Pedagogical Farm,
SAFIRE NouLaFerm

NouLaFerm offers a child-centered programme that is adapted to our beneficiaries 5 days a week including Saturdays for specific groups. The programme consists of sustainable agriculture, animal husbandry, literacy and numeracy, art and crafts, cookery, music, sports and maintenance offering a holistic approach to solve issues faced by children in street situation.

The programme is developed by an experienced curriculum developer with the help of the staff of SAFIRE. NouLaFerm has developed adequate infrastructures; a learning centre including office, classroom and kitchen, stores, greenhouse and chicken coop to deliver correctly the programme. The programme has two parts; acquiring academic skills but also vocational skills.

The overall primary objective of this project is to achieve rehabilitation and integration of beneficiaries through a pedagogical programme that promotes the practice of sustainable agriculture, animal husbandry, learning of crafts and other skills for employability and life- skills through literacy, numeracy and music classes.

NouLaFerm aims to become a platform to eventually direct beneficiaries to other training opportunities for example vocational training and apprenticeship in private and public sector enterprise. The emphasis is on equipping the beneficiaries for employability and also becoming small entrepreneurs.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

  1. To improve the employability and increase the skill set of the children participating in the program in sustainable agriculture, animal husbandry and other vocational skills.
  2. To encourage rehabilitation through reduction of street frequency and reduce the behavioural problems of the children through day-to-day farm caretaking and learning activities and acquisition of life-skills, societal norms and values.
  3. To promote food security and safety by opening the farm to the public and marketing organic agricultural products with the local community, restaurants and other businesses.
  4. To monitor and evaluate the project and disseminate the lessons learned with selected communities.
